Here’s one of the pictures from the first roll I took on the camera in the previous post… Pretty creepy huh? I thought I could scan it at home, but I seem to have lost the film attachment for my scanner. This was scanned in a rigged sort of way…

This is a house in my neighborhood that was built in 1903.

Cartridge Hawk-eye No. 2 Model C/ Old Arkansas Family Photos

I have three of these old Brownie Hawk-eye cameras from the early 1900′s that I decided I would dust off today and put some film in one to see if it would work. They are basically cardboard boxes with a wooden spool inside, a shutter release, a (worthless) viewfinder and a fixed meniscus lens. They were cheap when they were made-you could pick one up for around $4 when they were produced in 1926.

Most of my ancestors are from the northeastern corner of Arkansas in the Mississippi delta, where they were sharecroppers, farming mostly cotton. My grandma says they were basically “white slaves”, which I interpret as a dramatic way of saying, “it sucked and we were really poor.”

Below is a picture of the camera I loaded with film and my dog Huckleberry trying to assist me. There are also pictures of my grandfather, “Papaw”, my grandmother, “Momma Ann” and mom Deb at different stages in their lives. Being that they were poor and this camera was cheap and common, I’m thinking they probably used something similar and I’m hoping that the photographs that come out of this bad boy will look similar to the photos below.

12th South Farmer’s Market

I went down to the 12th South Farmer’s market today with my wife, brother and sister-in-law. Lots of wonderful organic, locally grown food. We bought some organic grass-fed beef, jalepeño plant, mint plant, fresh garlic, kale, cucumber and basil all for $18. Here’s a few pictures I took from the stand we bought most of our food from and two of my friends Ben and Lisa that were down there selling natural sodas and marshmallows…so good!

I used Yellow Sky Actions on these photos. It’s time to shine, Vintage Instant Photo and Dodge it Burn it.

I love these two people.

On all these photos I used the Yellow Sky Actions, Justinated 40-50%, Minty Fresh Haze 20%, Autumn Ease around 5% and Sunny Days around 5% with the sharp layer turned off. I used Sharp Shooter to sharpen parts of the detail shots. Easy Peasy.

Justin and Abby

This is a wedding I did last summer for my good friends Justin and Abby. If you are familiar with my music, then you’ve probably heard Justin playing cello on a few of my songs. It was great being a part of their wedding day. I would post more pictures because there are so many I love from this wedding but my flight to get back home is about to leave and I don’t want to miss it. Check out the other 1000 something pictures here. Also, my sister-in-law Lauren Pittman assisted me on this wedding because she was in town for a few days. She and her husband Hilton are two of the best wedding photographers I know of and are moving to Nashville from Raleigh sometime soon I hope. Be sure and check out their website!

Wow, I am terrible at blogging! I’m going to catch up though, promise. Here’s some pictures of a great couple.

I love this picture because it was their first time seeing each other and no one was supposed to be in there or see them. When the front door opened though, the curtains would blow open… so maybe I had my assistant open the door a few times. whoops.
